I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. I enjoyed meeting you last week and look forward to meeting a few more students and parents tomorrow. As was stated in the weekly Star Flier, Llewellyn hired a fourth Kindergarten teacher. You should be notified by the office via a post card if your child is being moved into the new classroom. I will send out an email to the families of students who will be in my class tomorrow afternoon. I wish everyone a wonderful year. Ms. Bussey brings with her a lot of experience and I am looking forward to working with her this year.
Drop-Off - In the morning, the bell will ring at 8:00. Prior to this time, you and your child may wait on the playground or come into the cafeteria for breakfast. Teachers will be on duty on the playground at 7:45, but please be aware that there is no adult supervision on the playground before this time. We ask that no one be in the halls or at their lockers prior to that 8:00 bell ringing. When the bell rings at 8:00, students will line up at the Kindergarten spot outside in the back of the building and I will meet them and bring them into the building. This will help limit the number of people in the building at one time. Our school day starts promptly at 8:00. Students are considered tardy at 8:05. If your child does come to school after 8:05, he or she will need to go to the office for a tardy slip.
Pick Up - The dismissal bell rings at 2:15. Just prior to this, all kindergarten classes will walk outside in the back of the building at our Kindergarten marker for dismissal. I will dismiss students to their “grown ups”. Please be patient during this process, as I will only release a student when I see their adult with my own eyes. If you are unsure whether or not I saw you, please check in with me. Students who take the bus or who go to an after school program will be escorted by a Fifth Grade Safety Patrol student. Students who are not picked up by about 2:20 will be taken to the office to wait. If there is a change in how your child goes home, I must have a written note from a parent/guardian and that person MUST be on their child's registration form. You may add people at any time during the year. This includes play dates with other students! Lunch/Recess Kindergarteners are at lunch and recess from 10:45 to 11:25. Your child can either bring a lunch from home or buy a school lunch. If bringing a lunch from home, it can stay in your child’s locker until lunchtime – we’ll pick them up on our way to the cafeteria. If your child will be buying a school lunch, please make sure that they have money on their lunch account. Each student has a lunch card with his or her name on it that can be used for purchasing a hot lunch or a milk to go with a lunch from home. You can add money to this card in a couple of ways. You can visit the cafeteria before school and see the cook, who will assist you in adding money. You can send lunch money to school and your child can give it to the cook during lunchtime. Or, you can take care of your child’s lunch account online. Visit the PPS website, click on the “How Do I?” drop down menu and select, “Add money to a lunch account” for more information. Specials Monday – P.E. 12-12:30 & Music 12:30-1:00 Tuesday – Library 11:50-12:20 Wednesday - Counseling 12:30-1:00 Thursday – P.E. 12-12:30 & Music 12:30-1:00 Friday - Computer 1:40-2:10 Snacks There will be time every afternoon for your child to have a snack from home and/or finish their lunch. Please plan ahead and put something extra in their lunch or back pack. Volunteers There will be many opportunities to volunteer in the classroom. I would like to have volunteers assist us in the morning during our Writer's Workshop. I will also have a sign up sheet available for people who would like to assist me one morning a week with prep work (cutting, laminating, bulletin boards, etc.) as needed. There is a lot of prep that goes into Kindergarten and I would love the additional support. I will also have a take home tub that I keep outside of my classroom with projects that can be completed at home. In addition, there will be opportunities to help out with art and science projects as well as volunteering for field trips and help in the computer lab. If you would like to volunteer at Llewellyn you need to complete a background check online. https://volunteer.pps.net/ Prep Help: Tuesday 8:00 – 9:00 (as needed) Writer’s Workshop Help: Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00-10:40 Computer: Friday 1:40-2:10 Birthdays We have a special birthday activity that we will do in our classroom on your child’s birthday. Also, unless there is one going home to every student in our class, please do not pass out birthday party invitations at school. |
