Principal Galati made a school wide decision today that there will be no Halloween parties this year due to our short week and no school Wednesday, Oct. 29-Friday, October 31st. So, we will not be having our annual Boo Breakfast. Llewellyn will still host its annual Monster March on Sunday, October 26th.

Please make sure that your child has an extra set of clothes in his/her locker. Accidents are bound to happen including muddy accidents on the playground as soon as the rain gets here. If you have extra clothes to donate to Llewellyn that would be great as well! Pants, shirts, underwear, shorts, etc. Thank you!
In my classroom students know that they can use a hand signal or tell me that they need to use the restroom. I don't let them go when I am teaching (5-6 minutes of instruction at a time) unless it is an emergency. We have frequent times throughout the day that our whole class has a bathroom break (before specials, before lunch, before morning recess). Please talk to your child about the importance of knowing when they need to go and making sure that they go. Our first field trip is scheduled for Friday, October 17th. Permission slips are due this Friday. Thank you to everyone who offered to chaperone. I went with the first four who contacted me. Please know that we will have 3 more field trips this year and everyone will have the opportunity to attend at least one field trip. Thank you!
Tomorrow (9/16) is K-2 curriculum night at Llewellyn. Please join us in the Cafeteria at 6 and then in our classroom at 6:25 p.m. I will talk about curriculum and explain how volunteering works in my classroom. Second session begins at 7:00 if you have two classrooms to visit. Hope to see you there!
The first few weeks of Kindergarten are dedicated to learning how to be independent in our classroom, learning how to use materials and put them away, learning classroom routines, and building community. Once these things are established, we can begin to learn! We worked with a partner to create color collages. We practiced opening and closing glue and using dots instead of globs to make Chester the raccoon from The Kissing Hand. We each thought about our hopes and dreams for the year. We agreed that we needed to come up with some classroom agreements in order to accomplish our hopes and dreams. Although, there are a few that I don't think fit into the Kindergarten curriculum. See Talla's response :) Students came up with the classroom agreements that they thought were important and then we narrowed them down to a few that seem to cover everything! In the morning when students arrive to school they get their clothes pin from their desk to answer the Question of the Day. This helps me see who is here and who is absent and gives us a chance to add, subtract, talk about most and least and allows us to practice counting to 20. Here is a look at our classroom jobs.
Today, students shared their thoughts about what makes a good student. Students came up with their own sentences about what they can do independently! Students learned how to set up, use, and put away water colors. Students made their first self portrait.
In the past, parents have requested a class list of parent contact information for play dates and birthday invites. I will create a sheet to send home with your child, if you would like to be on the list please return the sheet to me and I will have a parent compile the list.
We made it through our first day of Kindergarten together! What an amazing group we have this year. I can't wait to get to know each and every of your children better as the year goes on.
Today we learned about some of the materials in our classroom and where to find them independently. We toured the school and met Mrs. Williams, the P.E. teacher, and Mrs. McDonald, the Librarian. Next week we will begin specials (music, P.E., library, counseling and possibly computer lab). We read three books today, Wemberly Worried, Mom, It's My First Day of Kindergarten, and The Recess Queen. We talked about how we were feeling going into our first day of school (and how our parents were feeling) and we talked about the importance of being safe in our classroom and in our school. Next week we will learn about the importance of being INDEPENDENT, create and agree on our class promise, explore our classroom and materials and begin to establish our daily routine. Please check your child's folder and then make sure it comes back to school on Monday! Please bring in a family photo on Friday, September 5th. 4 x 6 or something close to that size works best. This will stay in the classroom all year. If you did not get a welcome email from me, please send me an email at [email protected] so that I can add you to my parent list. I have uploaded everyone's "first day of school" photo onto our classroom shutterfly account. You should have gotten a link to the site. Please send me an email if you did not.
Please send me your email address if you would like me to send you the link and password for our classroom shutterfly account. I will not post pictures to the blog as this will be public. Thanks!
